Best starting point: fit the largest finished board

P2S, Polar Lite and Reno65 Pro Vision are medium-bed research candidates for documented wood engraving. P3 becomes relevant when measured board dimensions, nesting or another product line use its larger area. Vision Pro can be considered for documented diode-compatible wood when clear-acrylic cutting is not part of the same requirement.

Confirm usable area, object height, camera or jig workflow and focus tolerance against the actual board—not nominal lumber size.

Qualify the complete board construction

Record supplier, product identifier, wood species, lamination, glue, resin fill, finish, sealer, paint, oil, feet and any adhesive label. An unfinished solid-wood sample does not validate a finished, bamboo-laminated or resin-filled board.

Unknown finish, unknown adhesive and reclaimed wood with uncertain treatments remain not verified. Do not use odor or flame behavior as identification.

Build a repeatable engraving workflow

Use a board-specific jig or registration method, define the safe engraving zone, and inspect focus across bowed or tapered stock. Qualify fine text, light and dark areas, edge distance, residue, cleaning and contrast on the exact lot.

Epilog documents cutting-board engraving and Trotec documents wood processing, but neither source makes settings portable across models, lenses, species or finishes.

Do not copy universal settings. Use the exact machine and board documentation, supervised samples and a recorded cleaning/inspection method.

Price the complete cycle

Time artwork, customer proofing, board intake, jig placement, engraving, cleaning, inspection, packaging and rework. Include rejected natural-stock variation instead of modeling only beam time.
