Supported, conditional and unknown

An identified ordinary or soda-lime glass item may qualify for a frosted CO₂ surface mark when the exact machine documentation supports it. A documented UV system may support selected glass or quartz marking with a different interaction. Supported means compatible under stated conditions—not free of fracture, fume or fire risk.

Bottles, drinkware and conical or handled pieces are conditional on rotary geometry, clearance and secure fixturing. Tempered, laminated, borosilicate, lead crystal, hand-blown, painted, glazed, back-coated or otherwise specialty glass remains unknown until formulation, treatment and exact system guidance are established.

CO₂, UV and coating removal are different

Current KEYENCE and Trotec documentation describes CO₂ surface effects as a frosted or white mark associated with microscopic surface change. UV systems can support specialist glass marking through a documented 355 nm process, but lower heat input does not make every glass compatible or eliminate cracking.

A conventional fiber application that removes a mirror's reflective backing is coating removal—not engraving the glass face. Likewise, an approved marking spray or paste produces a bonded mark and requires its own current SDS and machine instructions.

Qualify geometry and breakage

Record formulation, wall thickness, residual stress, shape, surface treatment and production lot. Reject chipped or visibly cracked pieces. Qualify the same blank and lot intended for production, then inspect for cracks, chips, weakening and unacceptable edge or surface quality.

Curved products add focus, collision, rotation and handle-clearance constraints. The enclosure also helps contain fragments if a stressed piece breaks; do not defeat it to make an object fit.

Fumes, coatings and claims

Identify mirror backing, paint, glaze, adhesive and marking compound before processing. Use the current SDS to evaluate composition, hazardous decomposition, handling and controls. An open window or room fan is not proof of adequate source capture.

A successful mark does not establish food-contact suitability, dishwasher durability, impact strength or consumer-product compliance. Those are separate requirements outside the visual result.

Do not publish or borrow universal power, speed or DPI settings across glass types and machines. Unknown or specialty glass stays unverified until exact evidence is available.
