Choose the result before the source
Define high-contrast surface marking, shallow or deep engraving, annealed oxide appearance, serialized data or decorative color as separate requirements. Specify allowed surface change, contrast, depth, heat tint and durability.
KEYENCE documents fiber and hybrid approaches for titanium. That category evidence does not validate a prosumer model, lens or parameter set.
What conventional fiber does better
Conventional fiber is the lower-complexity research path when the exact titanium part needs a qualified visible or engraved result without a demonstrated need for variable pulse behavior.
Require an exact-grade sample using the quoted source and lens. Record surface preparation, focus, fixture, parameters and inspection.
What MOPA does better—and cannot guarantee
MOPA exposes more pulse-control variables that can be useful for process development, including selected oxide-color workflows. It does not guarantee a color palette, black mark or repeatability across grades and finishes.
Compare matched samples and credible cycle time before paying for the premium.
Qualify geometry, verification and controls
Curved parts need a controlled focus strategy, fixture and field. Traceability codes need a defined grade method and verifier; visually sharp is not automatically compliant.
Metal marking can create particulates and uses powerful invisible-beam systems. Preserve the manufacturer control architecture and establish material-specific extraction and access controls.
When to stop or outsource
Stop when the titanium grade, surface treatment or coating is unknown; when a critical mark lacks acceptance criteria; or when the protective and contaminant controls are unresolved.
