What B6 Fiber does better
The current B6 conventional-fiber page offers a lower-cost research path for small-format metal marking when adjustable MOPA pulse behavior is not part of the acceptance requirement. That can reduce both purchase cost and the number of process variables to qualify.
Use it for an exact alloy, finish, geometry and mark specification—not because conventional fiber is generically best for every metal.
What B6 MOPA does better
The current B6 JPT MOPA listing offers 20 W, 30 W and 60 W source tiers with adjustable pulse behavior. That expanded control is relevant for selected high-contrast, color-development or heat-sensitive metal-marking work where exact-source samples pass the acceptance test.
MOPA does not make every alloy produce the same appearance. Surface finish, preparation, focus, lens and parameters remain part of qualification.
Limitations of B6 Fiber
Conventional fiber provides less pulse-shaping flexibility than MOPA. If a controlled sample on the exact alloy fails a required appearance or thermal constraint and an exact B6 MOPA sample passes, the lower purchase price is no longer the relevant advantage.
The base format is not a complete controlled station. Confirm source, lens, enclosure, interlocks, extraction, software and regional support in the selected quote.
Limitations of B6 MOPA
MOPA adds cost and process-development complexity without automatically adding saleable value. Marketing images of color or black marks are not repeatability evidence for a buyer's parts.
A higher power tier, different lens or expanded bundle changes the comparison. Normalize both quotes to the same part field, rotary need, protective controls and contaminant route.
Who should choose each—or neither
Choose B6 Fiber when a dated conventional-fiber sample meets the specification and the complete station fits. Choose B6 MOPA when exact-source testing shows a repeatable, valuable result that conventional fiber does not provide.
Choose neither when the alloy or coating is unknown, the part exceeds the qualified field, the desired mark is undefined, the open-beam controls are unresolved, or the decision depends on guaranteed color, speed or income.
