Match the laser to the surface

Removing or changing a known coating can differ from directly marking bare stainless steel. A blue-diode workflow may suit a documented coated blank, while direct bare-metal marking usually sends the buyer toward a documented fiber or MOPA process.

Do not generalize from a social-media result. Record the tumbler supplier, coating chemistry if available, base metal, finish, diameter, length and exact machine/module.

Rotary fit and production fit

Check chuck versus roller support, minimum and maximum diameter, usable length, handle clearance, taper handling, riser or Z clearance and whether the enclosure can close in the documented configuration. Include the rotary, fixtures and extraction in installed cost.

For batches, test loading, alignment and repeatability with your actual blank before committing to volume. Vendor maximum speed does not establish finished tumblers per hour.

Who should choose neither

Pause when the coating is unidentified, the object exceeds the documented rotary geometry, the machine must operate with protections defeated, or the ventilation plan cannot follow the manual.

If the core catalog spans coated blanks and direct bare-metal marks, price the correct separate processes rather than forcing one source to do both.

Never bypass an interlock or leave a rotary job unattended. Cylindrical stock can shift, reflect or expose a different coating layer.
