Laser cutting and engraving acrylic

Acrylic is not one workflow. Clear and colored sheet, cast and extruded grades, thickness, masking, coatings and whether you cut or engrave all affect the machine choice.

Clear and colored are different decisions

A visible-light diode beam can pass through clear acrylic rather than being absorbed effectively, while a CO₂ wavelength is the standard path for clear-acrylic cutting. Dark opaque acrylic may be documented on selected diode machines. Do not transfer that result to every color or blend.

Cast acrylic is often chosen for frosted engraving appearance; extruded sheet can behave differently. Confirm the supplier’s exact grade and the manufacturer’s current material table.

Plan for fumes, flame and finish

Use source capture/extraction designed for the exact machine and material. Keep the bed clean, supervise every run and follow the manual’s fire response and maintenance procedure.

A vendor single-pass maximum depends on formulation, thickness, focus, optics, air and condition. Validate samples before setting product promises or production capacity.
